SINGAPORE -- The US Food and Drug Administration has warned that the drug Viagra is to blame for the huge uptick in cases of sexual dysfunction among patients in the US, in the last few months.
In a letter to the agency, Pfizer said that it had received an overwhelming number of requests from patients to take their erectile dysfunction medicines to be used by men in India. "This indicates the FDA has failed to properly assess the severity of men's sexual symptoms, including erectile dysfunction," the letter said.
The drug's makers, Pfizer, were unable to disclose to the agency how much of their share of the US share would be spent on Viagra and its other erectile dysfunction drugs, according to the letter.
According to a statement by the drug maker, "there is a high degree of uncertainty among patients in this matter," Pfizer said in a statement.
In its letter, the FDA warned that it was unable to provide any information about the total amount of US shares of its share. The FDA had notified the company about the possibility of sharing more than 50,000 shares of the company's share of Pfizer's U. S. share in a letter to the agency.
